76-year-old wrong-way driver arrested after deadly I-17 collision

ADOT officials say alcohol may have been involved in the wrong-way crash that killed a motorcyclist and caused delays on I-17 on Tuesday.

BLACK CANYON CITY, Ariz. - A 76-year-old man was arrested and booked into jail after a string of collisions involving a wrong-way driver on Interstate 17 Tuesday.

One of the collisions resulted in the death of a motorcycle rider, later identified as 50-year-old Cindy Lee Meade of Phoenix, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Southbound Interstate 17 was closed for hours near Black Canyon City.

Authorities said Darroll Wayne Roberts of Black Canyon City was the man behind the wheel of the wrong-way vehicle, a red SUV.

He could face charges of DUI and vehicular homicide.
