12 News wins National Headliner Award for documentary or series

The 12 News investigative team won for its series on Kendra Parton, a student at Scottsdale Community College who took her own life.

The 12 News Investigative team has been recognized by National Headliners Awards for a series that aired in 2016. 

The National Headliners Awards have recognized journalistic merit in the communications industry since 1934. The contest is one of the oldest and largest of its kind.

The 12 News investigative team of reporter Wendy Halloran, photographer Jeff Blackburn, and assistant news director Ivan Hernandez won first place for "Deadly Grade: The Kendra Parton Story," in the documentary or series category for broadcast and cable television.

Bullied, Belittled and Berated

Second place in the category went to Al Jazeera Investigations for "The Poacher's Pipeline and third place went to Voice of America for "Faith in Freedom: The Journey of Muslim American Candidates."

Locally, the Arizona Republic also won several awards.
