Mesa FD offering free flu shots this week

Widow warns residents not to skip on their flu shot this year.

MESA, Ariz. - “Because he was so healthy, he did not think he needed any flu vaccine,” said Lisa Rasmussen.

Her husband, Paul, passed away in 2016 after a month-long battle with complications from the flu.

“I don’t want his death -- and I don’t want his life -- to be meaningless,” she said, “and if I can do this and if I can share this message as much as it hurts and as difficult as it is for me to get that out.”

Rasmussen and her two sons got the vaccine at the Mesa Fire Department during a news conference to show how quick, easy and painless it is.

Mesa FD is hosting two clinics this week.

The first is on Wednesday, from 5-7 p.m. at the Children’s Clinic inside the Superstition Springs Center in Mesa.

The second is on Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Henderson Hughes Health Fair and will be open to anyone six months and older.

“If you don’t do it for yourself,” said Rasmussen, “do it for those you love, do it for your friends, do it for your family. Challenge others.”
