Silent Witness: Man scammed woman for $12,500 on dent repair

Police are searching for a man who conned a 79-year-old woman out of $12,500 to repair a dent on her vehicle earlier this year.

The man spoke to the victim the afternoon of March 22 in the parking lot of a Fry's near Camelback Road and State Route 51, agreeing to repair the dent.

According to Silent Witness, the man followed the victim to her home and told her he would need $4,500 to rent a tool. She gave him the money.

Five days later, the man came back to the woman's home and told her he needed an additional $8,000 to get the original money back.

She has not seen him since, and he has not done any work on her vehicle, Silent Witness said.

He's described as a 6-foot, 300-pound white man who is between 50 and 60 years old.
