Jasmine Ponce was 36 weeks pregnant when her boyfriend Christopher Kraft shot her in the head, according to Phoenix police.

PHOENIX - A Phoenix man stands accused of shooting and killing his pregnant girlfriend early Sunday morning after she tried to stop him from bringing a gun to a dispute at another apartment in their complex, according to police.

An emergency surgery saved the baby boy, who police said is in good condition.

Christopher Kraft, 34, faces second-degree murder and evidence tampering charges after getting rid of the gun, per police.

Officers went to the scene near Union Hills Drive and 19th Avenue around 2:45 a.m. Sunday, where they found 23-year-old Jasmine Ponce with a gunshot wound. She was 36 weeks pregnant.

Police discovered that Kraft was in a dispute with people in another apartment when someone threatened that they would go get a gun. Kraft then went to his apartment to get his gun.

Ponce tried to stop him from leaving the apartment to confront the other residents with his gun, and he shot her, according to police.
