Arizona would suffer with GOP's Obamacare repeal, critics say

Critics of Republicans' legislation to repeal and replace Obamacare says Arizona could suffer huge financial and job losses.

Congress’ proposed repeal and replacement of the Affordable Care Act could blow a huge hole in Arizona’s state budget, leave countless residents without health insurance, and cost the state tens of thousands of jobs, according to plan opponents on this weekend’s “Sunday Square Off.”

Greg Vigdor, president and CEO of the Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association, and Dana Wolfe Naimark, CEO of Children’s Action Alliance, discuss the potential impact of a bill advanced last week by two committees in the Republican-controlled House.

Republicans counter that no one would be harmed. President Trump's Health and Human Services secretary, Tom Price, said on Sunday's "Meet the Press": "I firmly believe that nobody will be worse off financially in the process that we're going through."

Also on "Sunday Square Off,” the roundtable of Laurie Roberts of the Arizona Republic; Barrett Marson of Marson Media; and James Goodnow, political commentator and attorney at Fennemore Craig, discuss:

• The potential impact of ACA repeal on Arizona politicians up for re-election next year, including Gov. Doug Ducey and Sen. Jeff Flake.

• Why the NHL’s ultimatum to the state Legislature doesn’t help the Arizona Coyotes.

• What a state legislator’s dismissal of student journalists’ free-speech rights says about the spread of President Trump’s worldview.

• In our political predictions, Laurie Roberts tells us why a stalled bill that would expand school vouchers to every Arizona student could be heading toward passage at the State Legislature.

“Sunday Square Off” airs at 8 a.m. Sundays on 12 News, right after “Meet the Press.”
