Doing these 5 things will improve your iPhone's battery life

Make sure you get the most juice out of your phone by following these simple tips. Sean Dowling (@seandowlingtv) has more.

In a recent survey, 70% of people said the new iOS 11 is draining their battery faster.

If you feel that way, it’s not in your head. Often with an update, apps and settings get changed.

But there are a few settings you can adjust to gain some of that battery power back.

Check your apps

See which apps are draining the most battery power, but checking Settings > Battery. Then close the apps that are using a lot of power.

You can also go into Settings > General > Background App Refresh to save some power.

In iOS 11 this was automatically turned on for every app. Turn it off for all or customize which apps get updated.

Additionally, you can change it so Background App Refresh only happens on WiFi, which could save you data as well.

Low Power Mode is your friend

When your battery gets low, turn on Low Power Mode. This turns off a number of functions including mail fetch and background app refresh.

You can find this feature under Settings>Battery.

Know what is tracking your location

Check to see if any apps are set to always use your location under Settings>Privacy>Location Services. These apps use more battery because they are constantly monitoring your whereabouts.

Change these settings to “While Using” or “Never” to save power.

How bright is too bright?

Whenever your phone is lit up, it’s using battery even if you aren’t using the phone. Change the Auto-Lock setting (find it under Settings>Display & Brightness) to 30 seconds to save the most battery.

You can also turn on auto-brightness so the phone adjusts throughout the day. Or, turn the brightness down manually on your phone.

Generally, people usually have their phones set to be too bright.

Email: Push vs. Fetch

Turn off “Push” on email notifications to save even more battery. This feature checks for and downloads emails in real time.

“Fetch” checks about every 15 minutes, pinging the server less often.

You can find this setting under Settings>Accounts & Passwords>Fetch New Data.
