Tonopah residents split on Bill Gates' 'smart city' plans

Bill Gates has bought up land in the far West Valley, planning to build a "smart city" about 45 minutes west of downtown Phoenix.

Belmont, the named for the proposed city, would be made up of close to 25,000 acres of land, complete with cutting-edge infrastructure built around high-speed digital networks.

As for the people of nearby Tonopah, it's not clear what the construction of Belmont would mean for their town.

There's no word on when construction will begin, but the town is expected to be the size of Tempe.
