Gilbert ranks as one of the nation's 'most liveable' cities

Only one Arizona city made 24/7 Wall Street's list of 50 best to live in: Gilbert.

The southeast Valley suburb of Phoenix came in 12th on the list, just behind Mission Viejo, California and ahead of Flower Mound, Texas.

The ranking cited Gilbert's median home value of $307,000, noting that it is in the top 25 percent of American cities.

Other factors included Gilbert's 5 percent poverty rate and the fact that 45.4 percent of residents have at least a bachelor's degree.

The typical household in the 237,120-person city is $91,576, well above the national median household income of $57,617.

24/7 Wall Street also noted that Valley Metro Rail may extend light rail service to northern Gilbert as soon as 2019, and the city has grown 11.9 percent since 2011, way above the national increase of 3.7 percent.

Topping the list was Carmel, Indiana, and three of the top five cities are in suburban Denver.
