Weekend road closures around the Valley: What you need to know

The Arizona Renaissance Festival will slow down traffic near Apache Junction and Gold Canyon.

Thank you for visiting 12news.com for the weekend traffic report. Here’s what you need to know for this weekend, February 9 to 12. Commuters will deal with a couple freeway closures and restrictions this weekend.

The Loop 101 Southbound (Agua Fria Freeway) on-ramp at Olive Avenue is closed Friday 9 p.m. to Monday 5 a.m. for pavement improvements. Olive Avenue is also narrowed in both directions (alternating lane closures) between 91st and 93rd avenues near the Loop 101. Please allow extra travel time and consider using the Loop 101 southbound on-ramps at Peoria or Northern avenues.

Interstate 10 eastbound is closed between 59th and 43rd avenues, Friday 10 p.m. till Sunday 5 a.m. for the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway interchange construction. The I-10 eastbound on-ramps are closed at 75th and 67th avenues as well. Please consider alternate routes, including Loop 101 in the west and north Valley areas. Commuters can exit I-10 eastbound ahead of the closure and use surface streets. I-10 eastbound traffic exiting at 59th Avenue can detour to Van Buren Street or McDowell Road, but drivers should expect heavy delays.

NOTE: The eastbound I-10 on-ramp at 51st Avenue will remain closed from this Saturday to Saturday, March 17 for construction.

US 60 near the Apache Junction and Gold Canyon areas will have heavier weekend traffic at times through April 1 due to the Renaissance Festival. Please allow extra travel time and be prepared for slow traffic. Use caution, especially near festival parking lot access points.

Also, a reminder that 59th Avenue and Southern Avenue is closed now until March of this year. This closure takes place due to the South Mountain Freeway Construction. Some alternate roads to consider are Broadway or Baseline between 51st and 67th Avenues.

Have a fun and safe weekend!
