Saints have traded RB Adrian Peterson to Cardinals

Running back Adrian Peterson is headed to Arizona.
Dec 18, 2016; Minneapolis, MN, USA; Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson (28) looks on following the game against the Indianapolis Colts at U.S. Bank Stadium. The Colts defeated the Vikings 34-6.

Running back Adrian Peterson is headed to Arizona.

The Arizona Cardinals announced Tuesday they traded AP for an undisclosed 2018 draft choice.

ESPN's Dianna Russini tweeted the news Tuesday morning.

In 2017, the 32-year-old Peterson has rushed 27 times for 81 yards.

The Cardinals released an official statement Tuesday saying the franchise sees this trade as an opportunity to improve the team.

"Our need for a spark in our running game right now is also obvious and we are excited to give him the chance to provide that,” General Manager Steve Keim said in the statement.

Arizona's top running back, David Johnson, is expected to be out for most if not all of the season after suffering a wrist injury that required surgery.

To make room for Peterson, the Cards released running back Chris Johnson, according to an ESPN reporter.

The Cardinals also announced Tuesday that they signed long snapper Justin Drescher, another former Saint. Drescher will replace Aaron Brewer who broke his wrist in Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Arizona players seem pretty excited to have Peterson join the team, as expressed through Twitter.

And as the Cardinals pointed out, there are now two Pro Bowl Petersons on the roster.

Peterson is expected to be in Arizona in time to practice with the team tomorrow, the Cardinals said.
