The Arizona Cardinals lost to the Los Angeles Rams 32-16 Sunday afternoon. Coming into the game, it was uncertain what the running game would look like, as Adrian Peterson was inactive with a neck injury and Kerwynn Williams had cracked ribs.

The ribs didn’t stop Williams as he had a great game.

He carried the ball 16 times, gaining 97 yards.

It earned the praise of his coach and teammates.

“Kerywnn always steps up,” Bruce Arians said after the game. “He was hurt. Every time he starts, he gets 100 yards almost. He was a spark plus to get us back in the game.”

“He’s one of the toughest players on the team, pound-for-pound one of the toughest,” fellow running back Ellijhaa Penny said about Williams. “He’s an excellent role model in the running back room.”

Receiver Larry Fitzgerald said Williams is one of his favorite teammates.

“He’s a guy who is always looked over, always trying to be replaced, always drafted over,” he said. “He never allows that to affect his psyche. He never allows that to affect his preparation. . . Anytime he has success, I think everybody just loves seeing him do it because he’s such a great teammate. He’s selfless.”

Williams wasn’t going to let the injury slow him down. “I feel like everybody is in pain,” he said. “At this point in the year, everybody is all in right now and trying to do what they can to help the team win. We see guys like (Karlos Dansby) giving everything they’ve got every week. It helps you go out and prepare yourself to make sure you are ready to play.”

He credited getting rest during the week the treatment he received during the week. The rest was mental.

Unfortunately, it came in a losing effort. It was the first time this season where the Cardinals lost a game after rushing for at least 80 yards.
