Bruce Arians clear about Drew Stanton, not Blaine Gabbert, as starting QB

Bruce Arians made it very clear who will be the starter moving forward. It will be Drew Stanton.
Drew Stanton. The man. The legend.

The Arizona Cardinals likely will have to play the rest of the season without starting quarterback Carson Palmer, who broke his left arm against the Los Angeles Rams. He will miss at least eight weeks. Since there are only 10 weeks left in the season, it is a real possibility Palmer has played his final down in the NFL.

Bruce Arians made it very clear who will be the starter moving forward. It will be Drew Stanton.

“I’ll stick with Drew,” he said after the game. And the explanation males sense. “Because he’s our No. 2. I don’t skip two to get to three.”

So unless something happens to Stanton or he plays very poorly, Blaine Gabbert will not be starting.

“Drew’s played and won a lot of games for us,” Arians said. Stanton has gone 6-3 as a starter with the Cardinals. He last started in 2015 in San Francisco and won the game, although he was not sharp.

In relief of Palmer, Stanton did not do well. He completed only 5-of-14 passes for 62 yards and an interception. Arians said Stanton only had a few practice reps leading up to the game.

“He’ll do a lot better next week.”

The Cardinals now enter their bye week. They will have two weeks to prepare for the winless 49ers and get Stanton the practice reps he needs.
