Students walk out of Valley schools to protest gun violence

Aerial footage showed students walking out of Hamilton High School around 9 a.m. on Friday.

PHOENIX (AP) - High school students from across metro Phoenix plan to walk out of school and some will hold a "die-in" at the state Capitol in the latest protest against gun violence.

Metro Tech High School in Phoenix held an assembly ahead of the 'Never Again' march. Two survivors of the Parkland, Florida, school shooting spoke at the schoool.

Around 9 a.m., aerial footage from Sky 12 showed students walking out of Hamilton High School in Chandler, Arizona. The students formed the letters S - O - S, which stood for Save Our Schools.

Aerial coverage also showed students walking out of Saguaro High School in Scottsdale.

Friday's planned events by the Phoenix March for Our Lives group is being held on the anniversary of the 1999 school shooting at Columbine High School in Colorado.

The group was one of many organized by students across the nation following the Valentine Day's shooting that killed 17 students and staff at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

Organizers say three survivors of the Parkland massacre plan to attend the Phoenix events on Friday.

The students are pushing Gov. Doug Ducey to call a special session to pass gun violence legislation and include them negotiations on school safety proposals.
