BUCKEYE, Ariz. - The Bureau of Land Management said Tuesday it will temporarily close approximately 1,000 acres of desert land off of Miller Road in Buckeye.
The area is a popular for target shooting. Officials with BLM said the closure is to ensure public safety. In January, a woman died in the area after she was struck by a stray bullet. Police said hundreds of people were in the area at the time of the incident.
BLM also said the closure is to address damage to West Valley telecommunications infrastructure.
The closure will go into effect immediately. There is no estimate when the closure will be lifted.
