NEW YORK, NY - The past two years have been a comedy gold mine for "Saturday Night Live" and Kate McKinnon has been front and center.
"It is an exciting time to work on a comedy show, because everyone in the country is talking about the same thing and thinking about the same thing," she says.
Politics has been the bread and butter for McKinnon, but as her second straight Emmy win proves, she's been on point with an array of characters.
"I love to run the gamut," McKinnon says. "I love to just, anyone who strikes my fancy, in any way, I love to just see if I can be them."
Sometimes, it's not just the audience McKinnon is cracking up. Even a host, like Ryan Gosling, can struggle mightily to keep it together around her.
"You're not supposed to break. You shouldn't break. It's unprofessional. But it's the most fun you can have," she laughs.
This week, the fun continues for McKinnon when James Franco makes his fourth appearance as SNL host.
