Phoenix police arrested a student at Sierra Linda High School Thursday with a loaded handgun on the school's campus.

The Phoenix Police Department said in an announcement Friday morning that another student tipped off campus security and a school resource officer from Phoenix PD made the arrest.

The student, a 16-year-old boy, told the officer that he had no issues with anyone at the school and he was carrying the gun for personal security.

He was sent to the Juvenile Correctional Center, police said.

This was the second arrest Thursday for a student bringing a gun onto a high school campus in Arizona.

Justin Perotti, 18, was arrested at Chaparral High School in Scottsdale after police found a gun inside his car.

Both arrests come one day after an ex-student killed 17 people at a South Florida high school.
