San Diego Padres pitcher Jose Torres was arrested at his Phoenix home in December after allegedly pointing a handgun at his wife during an argument.

Torres, 24, faces aggravated assault, criminal damage and threatening charges stemming from the Dec. 23 incident. Officers from the Phoenix Police Department arrested him later that day.

Police documents show Torres also punched a hole in a door in the home, near 107th Avenue and Camelback Road.

Handling the semiautomatic handgun is a violation of the Venezuelan national's work visa, police said, so officials notified Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Court documents show Torres is now staying in team housing, not with the victim.

The Padres placed Torres on MLB's restricted list this week, and he will not be in camp Wednesday when pitchers and catchers report to Peoria.

As a rookie last year, Torres pitched 68 1/3 innings with a 4.21 ERA and 63 strikeouts. MLB.com reports he was slated to compete for a spot in the Padres' bullpen after posting a 1.96 ERA over the 2017 season's final two months.
