Arizona's Most Wanted: Damien Navarro's killer

Five years earlier, the victim's older brother, who was also 18 years old at the time, was shot and killed in California.

Phoenix police received the 911 call around 1 a.m. on Sept. 9. A person living at an apartment complex near 67th Avenue and Indian School Road heard gunshots.

“At the time when investigators showed up, nobody knew who had done this,” said Silent Witness Det. Michael Fischer.

The 18-year-old victim was later identified at Damien Navarro.

“We (our family) are destroyed. I cry in my sleep,” said Cruz Navarro.

The loss is something this family has dealt with before. Five years ago, Damien’s older brother, who was also 18 years old at the time, was shot and killed in California.

“There is no reason to murder my son, either son,” said Navarro.

Police have not been able to identify a suspect and are turning to the community for help.

“Somebody knows something and we need them to call,” said Det. Fischer.

The family believes people are hesitant to come forward out of fear.

“People at the complex saw what happened but are afraid to talk,” said Navarro.

The family has posted flyers at the complex where the murder occurred but so far it has not helped.

A reward of $1,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest. If you have any information you are urged to call Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS (948-6377).
