GLOBE, Ariz. - An Arizona surgeon has been indicted on 30 felony charges related to allegedly forging prescriptions for opioid medications, according to the Arizona Attorney General’s Office.

The indictment alleges that Dr. Jamison Mark Foster, 40, forged the signature of a Phoenix doctor in order to obtain opioids for his own personal use, according to an Attorney General’s Office media release.

Foster is a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and was practicing as a general surgeon in Globe, the release stated. He was previously employed by the doctor whose signature he is accused of forging.

The investigation began in May 2017 when Dr. Foster allegedly attempted to fill a forged prescription for Oxycodone at a pharmacy in Globe, according to the release. The pharmacist contacted law enforcement after growing suspicious of the prescription.

Investigators contacted the prescribing doctor listed on the prescription and learned that she had not authorized a total of 71 prescriptions that Dr. Foster allegedly filled at pharmacies across Arizona between June 2016 and May 2017, the release stated.
