3-year-old girl on life support, mother's boyfriend arrested

Hospital officials said the child is on life support and may not survive without it.

PHOENIX - A 3-year-old girl is on life support after spending a day with her mother's boyfriend, according to court documents.

According to court paperwork, 33-year-old Sidney Landers was arrested Sunday after the victim was admitted to the hospital with bruises on the front and back of her torso, multiple broken ribs and a swollen face.

The mother of the 3-year-old said she left her daughter with Landers all day Sunday and found her daughter injured when she came home that day, court documents showed. She said Landers was unable to give her a reasonable explanation for the injuries.

Hospital officials said the child is on life support and may not survive without it.

During a post-Miranda interview, court documents said, Landers said he was "frustrated" because the victim has several "accidents in her pants" and would not stay still while he changed her diaper. Landers admitted to using force to hold the child down.

According to court documents, Landers claimed he didn't mean to hurt the child, but reiterated he was "frusturated."
