Leidy Dueñas was struck by misfortune not once but twice in quick succession .
She was pregnant, taking care of her five children in Houston while her husband worked in Arizona when Hurricane Harvey hit.
"Well, when the storm arrived, I didn’t think it would be something as catastrophic as it was," she said. "I thought it’d just be another hurricane like always. There’s always hurricanes, and it rains, but not like that."
After losing it all, she and her kids moved to Arizona to start over again with her husband.
"I moved up here to Arizona and moved into a house," Dueñas said, "but four days after moving in, the house burnt down."
Once again, Dueñas and her family were homeless.
"I felt so bad, I didn’t know what was happening," she said. "I mean, I’m coming from something bad and heading into something worse."
Her former landlord had St. Vincent de Paul help her out with her situation.
"They started to bring me food and gift cards so that I can get clothes for us and different necessities," she said.
As Thanksgiving arrives, St. Vincent de Paul is bringing her some necessities so that she can celebrate and give thanks for what she has left.
"In the most difficult times, and when things were really ugly, we were in an uncomfortable situation and with five kids," she said. "We needed to get things fast."
