If you're looking for something a little more special than flowers and candy this Valentine's Day, jewelry might be the way to go, and there are alternatives to diamonds that can save you big.

Sharon Lehew with Robbins Brothers says "eco diamonds" can your best friends. Unlike traditional mined, eco diamonds are made in a lab, but are virtually indistinguishable from real diamonds.

However, the savings can be between 20 and 40 percent. Lehew showed us two 2-carat diamonds. Both were comparable in size, but vary in clarity. The mined diamond was $13,000, while Lehew said the eco diamond cost $6,200.

If you want the look of a diamond, but even bigger savings, Lehew suggested cubic zirconia and crystals.

"We have beautiful pendants that you can see pricing around $160," Lehew said.

As far as trends go, rose gold is very big, as are stackable bracelets, Lehew said.

"Crystals are around $25 to $75. Cubic zirconia [goes] from $125 to a couple hundred depending on the style you chose, so very very affordable for Valentines Day," Lehew said.
