9-year-old star of Dolly Parton Christmas special: 'Being Dolly is hard'

Preparing to play the legendary Dolly Parton.

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. - They might be 61 years apart, but the two biggest stars on Dollywood's red carpet are much closer than that.

"We've become really close,” Alyvia Alyn Lind said, “and the best thing about knowing Dolly is knowing Dolly!"

Lind is no stranger to the red carpet, landing several roles in TV and film. Most notable, however, is her current role as the 9-year-old version of a living legend.

"Being Dolly is hard,” she said, “because being a character is hard but to be somebody else is extra hard, so I really wanted to get Dolly perfect.”

She's been spending time with an expert.

"I don't think a lot of people can say they know Dolly Parton,” Lind said. “So that's the biggest honor I could get."

The honor comes with a great challenge however, and Lind didn’t take it lightly. She’s been spending almost two years now brushing up on her Dolly voice and mannerisms.

"Well, I watched a lot of Dolly movies and video of Dolly,” she said, “and really wanted to capture every deep corner of Dolly so I can play her really well."

Much easier to figure out was Parton’s expectation for the message this movie would give to viewers.

"I hope it makes them feel happy, warm, cozy, loved. It's really about family,” Dolly Parton told 12 News.

Lind didn’t take long to start feeling and speaking like her idol when describing the subject of the movie.

Faith and hope and love,” she said. “And I hope everybody knows, to be with your family on Christmas and any holiday because that's the thing that's most important."
