BB Bear ventures out of the hospital to visit Arizona Midday

After abuse and mistreatment, BB Bear is regaining his strength and preparing for life after recovery.

BB Bear, the Valley's favorite husky puppy, made his way out of the hospital to visit with Arizona Midday's Jan D'Atri Thursday.

The pup was brought into Maricopa County Animal Care and Control's shelter with a massive skull fracture earlier this month. In the time since, he's gone through a medically induced coma and continued to recover from his injuries.

He's been cared for 24 hours per day at the Phoenix Dog Cat Bird Hospital, and his medical expenses have been covered through the Two Pups Wellness Fund and Arizona Animal Rescue Mission, according to Jose Santiago of MCACC.

Dr. Lara Sosnow from the Phoenix Dog Cat Bird Hospital said BB Bear is eating and drinking on his own now, and he also takes strolls around the clinic.

It's not yet clear when he will be ready for adoption -- officials want him to be 100 percent ready to go when they do put him up for adoption. There have been hundreds of emails and phone calls to the shelter asking how to adopt the pup.

The ideal family would know that huskies are fairly high maintenance, so someone will have to be with BB Bear much of the time.

Santiago also explained that there are plenty of other adorable pups who need homes -- about 1,000 between MCACC's two shelters -- so if you're in the market for a dog, you can find your perfect buddy there.

A release from MCACC said the shelter is at capacity -- 450 dogs between the two locations need homes as soon as possible. In some instances, there are up to four dogs in one kennel, which is not a tenable situation for the dogs' health and adoptability.

For the time being, ALL dogs who are 7 months and older can be adopted for free! You can find more information on adoptions and shelter locations on MCACC's Facebook page.
