TEMPE, Ariz - Tempe police are still looking for a suspect in Thursday night's attempted kidnapping of a 6-year-old girl.
The girl was able to fight her way free and yell for help.
Self-defense experts said she did the right thing, making as much of a scene as possible.
“We should be as loud as we can be if there’s danger," Derek Hofrichter with East Valley Krava Maga said. Hofrichter teaches self-defense classes for children.
"Be as absolutely difficult as possible," he said. "Fall to the ground, drop our weight, bite, scratch, do anything that might make someone decide that they’re not worth it.”
Hofrichter said there's no way for a child to overpower an adult, but creating a large enough scene may cause an attacker to simply give up and walk away.
Investigators said the girl described a black man, 20 to 30 years old, with tattoos on his arms. So far, police said they have no suspects in custody.
