The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Maricopa County Thursday after a storm was spotted over Desert Mountain.

The warning covered Scottsdale, Cave Creek, Carefree, Desert Mountain and Camp Creek and expired at 6 p.m. NWS said the storm had started to weaken.

Initially, NWS said hail up to 3/4 of an inch and 60 mph winds are possible with this storm.

As of 5:30 p.m., the storm was 10 miles north of Scottsdale and nearly stationary, per NWS.

Expect the hail to damage roofs, siding and trees.
