The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning, prohibiting campfires for Saturday and Sunday noon to 7 p.m. in Kaibab National Forest due to strong winds and low relative humidity. This warning comes along with a temporary closure due to the Boundary Fire near Kendrick Mountain Wilderness.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring or are imminent. The warning advises against campfires in the entire Kaibab National Forest including developed campgrounds.

According to the National Weather Service, the combination of strong winds and low relative humidity can contribute to extreme fire behavior. Winds are expected to be strongest on Sunday. The National Weather Service said there will be a Wind Advisory for much of northern Arizona on Sunday.

The Williams Ranger District of the Kaibab National Forest and the Flagstaff Ranger District of the Coconino National Forest are closed this weekend while fire crews work on the Boundary Fire.
