Here’s what you need to know for traffic this weekend, October 20-23. Commuters will deal with a handful of closures throughout the Valley.
The first closure of the weekend is in the northwest Valley. Loop 101 is closed in both directions at 67th Avenue, Friday 9 p.m. to Saturday 6 p.m. for traffic-signal maintenance. Traffic on 67th Avenue approaching Loop 101 are limited to right turns onto freeway frontage road or on-ramps. Please consider using 75th Avenue as an alternate route.
Interstate 10 eastbound is closed at 59th Avenue, Saturday 9 p.m. to Sunday 10 a.m. for Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway bridge construction. I-10 eastbound on-ramps at 75th, 67th and 59th avenues are also closed. Please allow extra travel time and expect heavy traffic. Commuters can use surface streets by exiting I-10 Eastbound at 59th Avenue and detour south to eastbound Van Buren Street and use northbound 51st Avenue to access I-10. Drivers can also use Loop 101 in the West Valley too.
I-10 eastbound narrowed to one lane at 59th Avenue from Friday 9 p.m. until Saturday 10 a.m. for bridge construction at Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway interchange.
Final closure of the weekend is on the I-10 in the southeast Valley. The I-10 is narrowed to one lane in each direction near State Route 587 south of Chandler from Sunday 7 p.m. until Monday 6 a.m. for pavement resurfacing project. Please allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes. I-10 drivers traveling beyond Phoenix should consider using I-8 and State Route 85 to avoid these overnight lane restrictions and delays on I-10.
Union Hills/Interstate 17
Union Hills Drive is closed in both directions at Interstate 17 from Friday 9 p.m. till Saturday 5 p.m. for installation of wrong-way vehicle detection system. The I-17 northbound off-ramp at Union Hills Drive is also closed. Drivers on Union Hills Drive approaching the I-17 will need to make right turns onto frontage road. Please consider using Bell Road or Yorkshire Drive/Utopia Road to get around the closure.
An additional closure on the I-17 is heading in the southbound direction. The off-ramp at Thunderbird Road is closed from Saturday 9 p.m. to Sunday 8 a.m. for construction.
Thank you for stopping by and have a fun and safe weekend!
