Vehicle collision, fire leaves one dead on Loop 202

PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Transportation and the Phoenix Fire Department responded to a fatal vehicle collision on Loop 202 early Saturday morning.

Firefighters found a two-vehicle accident when they arrived on the scene, the fire department said. One of the vehicles was fully involved in fire.

The person in the on-fire vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, firefighters said. There were no other injuries in the incident.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety is now on the scene and will be taking over the investigation, the fire department said.

Traffic appears to be backed up on Loop 202 due to the accident, according to ADOT traffic cameras. There has been no estimate given on when the accident is expected to be cleared and the roadway reopened.
