Suspect dies after getting struck by multiple cars on US 60 in Glendale

While fleeing, police said the 21-year-old collided into the side of a box truck that was driving by, fell backward and was then hit by an SUV.

GLENDALE, Ariz. — A man accused of stealing a bike is dead after he ran into the middle of US 60 in Glendale Monday night and was struck by multiple vehicles, according to police.

Officers were called out to Grand Avenue near 43rd Avenue and Camelback Road for a stolen bike. The suspect, later identified as 21-year-old Abraham Villa Salgado, was spotted by an officer who tried to stop him.

When Salgado saw the officer, investigators said he jumped off the bike and ran onto the roadway.

While fleeing, police said he collided into the side of a white box truck that was driving by, fell backward and was then hit by a dark-colored Chevrolet Tahoe.

Salgado was rushed to a hospital and later died, according to police.

The highway was closed in both directions for several hours during the investigation.

Police said the drivers of the box truck and Chevrolet both drove away from the scene without stopping to help and are now wanted by officers.
