​PHOENIX - Gushing water flooded roads near McDowell Road and 21st Avenue after 6 a.m. Wednesday.

A spokesperson for the city of Phoenix says a semi hit a fire hydrant.

Utility crews and police were on the scene as aerial footage showed water gushing out onto the street.

According to a spokesperson for the city's water services department the valve attached to the fire hydrant was shut off while crews worked to repaired the hydrant.

Westbound lanes were flooded, McDowell Road was reduced to one lane westbound, and eastbound lanes were also affected. Drivers were advised to avoid the area.

No residences or businesses were out of water, officials said.
