Thank you for visiting 12news.com for the weekend traffic updates for June 9-12!
Commuters will only have to detour around two closures in the Valley this weekend.
The first closure has been taking place every weekend, but on different parts of the I-17. This weekend Southbound 17 is closed between Thomas Road and Interstate 10 at the “Stack” interchange, Friday 10 p.m. to Monday 5 a.m. for rubberized asphalt paving. All north- and southbound I-17 ramps connecting to the I-10 at the Stack are closed. However, the I-10 ramps connecting to the I-17 (both directions) will remain open.
The northbound I-17 HOV lane is closed between McDowell and Thomas roads. Commuters can consider alternate southbound routes, including SR 51 to I-10. Southbound I-17 traffic exiting at Thomas Road can use the southbound frontage road or 19th or 27th avenues, but expect heavy traffic and delays. In addition to this closure westbound Thomas Road narrowed to one lane at I-17 for bridge fence replacement.
The final closure of the weekend is on the SR 143, it’s closed in both directions between McDowell Road and Washington Street Sunday 4 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. for Cox Communications overhead utility line work. Commuters can detour northbound SR 143 to westbound Loop 202 and can exit at 32nd Street. Drivers who normally would use southbound SR 143 from McDowell Road can consider using southbound 48th Street.
There are a lot of fun things to do this weekend and the temperatures are going down to double digits on Sunday, so take advantage and enjoy!
