PHOENIX — As is usual with traffic on Interstate 17 northbound during any holiday weekend, long delays are expected on the highway near Sunset Point this Memorial Day weekend.

On Friday around noon, I-17 northbound at Badger Springs Road was closed after a crash involving a camper, ADOT said. Traffic was backed up at least 10 miles as motorists exit at Badger Springs Road (Exit 156) and re-enter the highway.

ADOT said those going north from the Valley should consider delaying travel or taking an alternate route such as State Route 87 through Payson to State Route 260 through Camp Verde, where they can then re-enter I-17.

Real-time highway conditions are available on ADOT's Arizona Traveler Information site at az511.gov; by calling 511, and through ADOT's Twitter feed.
