Three children ages 8 and younger have been hospitalized after a crash in south Phoenix Monday afternoon.

Paramedics took an 11-month-old girl, a 7-year-old boy and an 8-year-old girl to pediatric trauma centers after the crash with a garbage truck near 7th Street and Broadway Road, according to fire officials.

A 30-year-old woman who was driving the Jeep Cherokee with the children in the back seat was also transported to a hospital.

Police said in a release that all four patients are expected to survive.

The driver of the garbage truck was evaluated at the scene but not taken to a hospital.

Police said the truck was headed east and collided with a Volkswagen Pasaat that was also headed east, waiting to turn left at 7th Street. The truck then continued east and hit the Jeep before hitting two parked cars and the corner of a building on the northeast corner of the intersection.

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the crash. The truck driver stayed at the scene and showed no signs of impairment, police said.
