PHOENIX - For the first time in the history of the Kroc Center Volleyball Academy, a small inner city club through the Salvation Army, the KCVA 18 Nationals team earned a bid to the USA Volleyball's Girls Junior National Championships in Dallas.

"It's not every day that a smaller club gets a bid to nationals," head coach September Lopez said.

This is an opportunity for many of these young girls to get noticed by some of the biggest college recruiters.

"I'm really excited because my goal is to play in college so hopefully someone will see me and like me and I'll get to continue my volleyball career," KCVA's Tyasia McGrater said.

To be a member of the Salvation Army's Kroc center team, the girls must maintain a high grade-point average and give back to their community.

"They leave 200 percent on the court and have worked so hard this season," Lopez said.

The tournament will be held at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas from April 21-23.
