Curling event brings Olympics to Arizona, empowers people with disabilities

A group called Ability360 is making it possible for some Valley residents try their hand at curling.

TEMPE, Ariz. - From the slopes to the ice rink we've seen some incredible Olympic performances over the past two weeks, and they're inspiring others to try some of these sports for themselves.

A group called Ability360 is making it possible for some Valley residents try their hand at curling. They held a special tournament Feb. 24 and 25 to empower people with disabilities to try out curling at the Coyotes Curling Club in Tempe.

"I think everyone out here had a really great time," Patrick McDonald said.

McDonald is a two-time Paralympian. He said Ability360 started a wheelchair curling league that meets once a week.

"For people who have been curling for only six to eight weeks, the level of competition out here is tremendous," said Darryl Horsman, a boardmember of Coyotes Curling Club.
