The Arizona Cardinals announced a correction in the stats from the team’s 38-33 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The result was giving outside linebacker Chandler Jones an additional sack, which also gives him a franchise record.
In the fourth quarter with the Bucs at the Arizona six-yard line for first-and-goal, the play in the box score was ruled a run play by quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick that went fro minus-2 yards and Frostee Rucker was credited with the tackle.
The play was corrected to be a sack credited to Chandler Jones. Rucker loses credit for the tackle.
The change gives Jones credit for two sacks for seven yards lost.
He now has seven sacks in six games, which sets a Cardinals franchise record. Before this week, the record for the most sacks in the team’s first six games of any season belonged to Curtis Greer, who had 6.5 in six games in 1983. That record now belongs to Jones.
With seven sacks through six games, Jones is on pace for more than 18 on the season, which would be a team record.
The additional sack also puts him alone as the most productive pass rusher in the last three seasons. He now has 30.5 since the start of the 2015 season, tops in the NFL.
Jones now is tied for fourth in the league in sacks.
It also gives him his 14th multi-sack game. Since 2013, only J.J. Watt has more multi-sack games with 16.
