PHOENIX - Former Arizona Cardinals linebacker Edwin Jackson was killed Sunday after being struck by a suspected drunk driver on a Indiana highway.
The 26-year-old football player signed with the Cardinals in 2015 as a rookie free agent. He spent the last two seasons with the Indiana Colts.
The Cardinals franchise and players remembered Jackson, or "Pound Cake" as his teammates called him, on Twitter Sunday.
"We are saddened to hear of Edwin Jackson's passing," the Cardinals tweeted.
Fellow linebacker Josh Bynes was the first to tweet about Jackson.
Safety Tyrann Mathieu used the #ForeverYoung to remember to the young athlete.
Linebacker Markus Golden and wide receiver D.J. Humphries also tweeted in memory of their former teammate.
Jackson was one of two people killed Sunday when they were standing next to a stopped vehicle in the emergency shoulder when they were struck by a truck.
The linebacker was from Atlanta where he was a high school football star. He attended Georgia Southern University and joined the football team as a walk on.
