If you have watched NBC's new show "This Is Us," you've probably cried, laughed and felt like you could already relate.

It has definitely shocked many viewers with the many twists and how the cast of characters intersect.

One of the main characters who has many people talking is Kate -- played by Chrissy Metz.

Kate is a 36-year-old woman who struggles with her weight and we see her go through measures to try to stop eating junk food. In the meantime, she meets a nice guy named Toby, played by Chris Sullivan, and there's a definite attraction.

12 News had the chance to chat with Chrissy and Chris.

"For so long I was like, 'I just want to see myself on television,' and then finally I do and people are like, 'all it is about weight and why do we always have to talk about this,'" said Metz about people's first reaction of her appearance on the show.

We asked Metz if viewers reach out to her on social media for support or some type of empowerment on how she handles people that criticize her.

"Until we educate people and we show them that you know, people who have issues surrounding weight, it's not always about food, they're these stereotypes of who we are and who we aren't," said Metz.

She mentioned that she always gets people who thank her for being her.

Toby (Sullivan) and Kate (Metz) go through some hardships like any relationship, but the real story behind their relationship in the show is to see how they interact as a couple while fighting emotionally through their battles.
