Scratch! Scratch! Scratch!
An Arizona woman won the Arizona Lottery Statewide Competition for designing Día de los Muertos scratchers tickets.
Emily Costello, said she's been focusing on her art for the past eight years. Now, her work will be seen all around the state.
Her three art pieces, inspired by Día de los Muertos, will be on the special $2 scratcher tickets beginning in August. The tickets, special for Hispanic Heritage Month, will be sold in about 3,000 Arizona Lottery retailers.
"I hope that when people who don't know that much about Day of the Dead or Día de los Muertos, will see the images, will make them smile and they will want to know about this important part of the Mexican culture," Costello said.
This the first time the Arizona Lottery has used a local artist's art on a lottery ticket.
Costello is a well-known artist in the Valley. She is currently an artist-in-residence at a non-profit organization called XICO which promotes indigenous arts and education.
Her passion and dedication seeps through her artwork, and now the whole state can see.
