Religious leaders join Dreamers upping efforts for DREAM Act in spending bill

Advocates called on local Democratic congressional representatives to vote no on a federal spending bill this week if it does not include a DREAM Act deal.

PHOENIX - Religious leaders are joining young immigrants brought into the country illegally as children in their fight to remain in the U.S. without fear of deportation.

“We urge congress and the president to immediately pass a clean Dreamer's Act without using Dreamers as leverage or bargaining chips,” said Rev. Ken Hinzelman.

The Trump administration ended the federal program (DACA) that allowed Dreamers to stay in the U.S. A federal court blocked that move, and now the president is appealing that decision, so Dreamers are doing everything they can to get Congress to come up with a DREAM Act deal.

Outside the Arizona Democratic Headquarters, young immigrants called on local Democratic congressional representatives to vote no on a federal spending bill this week if it does not include a DREAM Act deal.

Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) is also a point of focus for Dreamers. Immigrant advocates stood outside his office rallying for a so-called clean DREAM Act.

However, members with Patriot Movement Arizona didn’t hold back in also joining the group of protestors against a resolution for Dreamers. They say, the focus is to build a wall along the southern U.S. border because that’s what voters want.
