CHANDLER, Ariz. - A wrong-way driver caused a three-vehicle crash on Loop 202 in Chandler Monday night, fire officials said.

The crash shut down the entire westbound side of the freeway near Kyrene Road, according to a fire spokesperson.

An Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesperson said a woman drove onto the freeway headed the wrong way and crashed into a pickup truck as she tried to turn around. The pickup truck rolled over and the SUV hit another vehicle.

One person was taken to the hospital in serious condition and another was transported there in critical condition. One of the patients is from the wrong-way vehicle, fire officials said.

The are is expected to be reopen overnight. Until then, officials suggested drivers use alternate routes.
