Thank you for visiting 12news.com for the weekend traffic updates for May 19-22. Commuters will detour around a few closures in the west Valley, Phoenix area and east Valley.
Let’s start in the west Valley with the Loop 101 closure. Loop 101 southbound ramp to I-10 westbound is closed for bridge work Friday 10 p.m. until Monday 5 a.m. Please consider using alternate routes to avoid heavy traffic near ramp closure. These routes include exiting Loop 101 southbound at Camelback or Thomas roads and traveling west to southbound 99th Avenue to access I-10 westbound.
The next closure has been taking place every weekend, but on different parts of the I-17. This weekend, the I-17 southbound is closed between Indian School Road and Grant Street for rubberized asphalt paving Friday 10 p.m. to Monday 5 a.m. McDowell Road is closed in both directions at I-17 and the I-17 northbound left lane is closed between Van Buren Street and Thomas Road. Commuters can consider using the 51 southbound or Loop 101, and I-17 southbound traffic exiting at Indian School Road can use the southbound frontage road or 19th or 27th avenues. Expect heavy traffic and allow extra travel time due to this closure.
The next closure is on the I-17 as well. The I-17 southbound ramps to I-10 at the “Stack” interchange and the I-10 eastbound and westbound ramps to I-17 southbound are also closed Friday 10 p.m. until Monday 5 a.m.
A closure that is not mentioned in the report above, but needs to be noted is the 51 northbound off-ramp at Highland Avenue is closed Friday 11:30 p.m. to Saturday to 9 a.m. for City of Phoenix waterline project. Consider using other nearby SR 51 northbound exits, including Indian School and Bethany Home roads.
The final weekend closure is in the Tempe area, the US 60 westbound HOV-lane ramp to I-10 westbound for pavement improvements Friday 10 p.m. until Saturday 10 p.m. In addition to that closure, the I-10 westbound left two lanes (including the HOV lane) are also closed between Baseline and Broadway roads. Please be prepared to slow down, merge safely and use caution in work zones.
Thank you for visiting and have a fabulous weekend!
