PHOENIX - Firefighters took a 2-and-a-half-year-old girl to the hospital Sunday after she was pulled from a backyard pool near 43rd Avenue and Bethany Home Road.

The girl had been under water for an unknown period of time, crews said.

Police said several adults were home at the time of the incident.

She was taken to Thunderbird Hospital without a pulse and was not breathing, firefighters said. She was later pronounced deceased at the hospital, police said.

Police are investigating how the girl ended up in the water, but nobody is being charged with a crime and police are calling it an unfortunate accident.
