TEMPE, Ariz. - Police said Friday night that they had arrested a man suspected of a violent robbery.

James Alexander Pryor Jr., 24, was arrested around 4 p.m. Friday.

Police say he approached a woman in a parking lot near Priest Drive and Elliot Road and asked to use her cellphone.

She gave it to him and he suddenly tried to grab her purse. She did not let go, but she did fall to the ground.

Pryor allegedly dragged her across the parking lot by her arm and punched her in the face, head and neck before taking the purse and running away.

Police identified Pryor through video surveillance before arresting him.

He faces one count each of robbery, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
