TEMPE, Ariz. - A white SUV that lost control crashed into two trees and struck a man sitting underneath, according to Tempe Police.

Officers said the incident took place around 11 p.m. on Thursday. The white SUV was traveling westbound on Southern Ave. near 48th St.

There was another vehicle traveling near it. When the white SUV swerved to avoid a collision, it went across a sidewalk, hit two trees and killed a pedestrian underneath one of the trees.

There were three people inside the car, all aged 16 to 18 years old.They were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Tempe PD said impairment was not a factor in the crash. Detectives are looking at speed.

Police have not identified anyone involved.
