PHOENIX - A woman is dead after an officer-involved shooting in north Phoenix Wednesday.
According to Sgt. Vince Lewis with the Phoenix Police Department, police responded to reports of shots fired near Loop 101 and 51st Avenue around 6:45 p.m.
Three officers and a sergeant were met by a woman wielding a rifle who fired shots at them when they arrived on scene, Lewis said.
The officers returned fire with their service weapons, hitting the suspect.
Police said she was taken to the hospital, where she later died.
No injuries to officers were reported.
According to Lewis, the rifle appeared to be an AR-15-style rifle, but police are working to confirm this.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
