LAVEEN, Ariz. - Phoenix police officers shot a son who went after his father with a knife during a fight in Laveen Wednesday night, a police spokesperson said.

The officers responded to a call of a father and son fighting at a home near 67th and Southern avenues.

The son picked up a large kitchen knife, police said, and tried to hurt his father, who ran outside. Officers arrived as the son chased the father.

The police spokesperson said officers told the son to drop the knife. When he didn't drop it, they shot him.

His injuries are considered life-threatening.

No officers were injured, according to police, who said they are still investigating.
