PHOENIX - The Phoenix Police Department said three men have been detained after they allegedly robbed one convenience store, assaulted a clerk, shot a bystander and attempted to rob two more stores in a west Phoenix neighborhood.

Around 4 a.m. Sunday, three men displaying handguns attempted to enter a store near 27th and Dunlap avenues, but the doors were locked and they fled.

The men then went to a store located at 19th and Glendale avenues and committed an armed robbery. During the incident, the men physically assaulted the store clerk and then shot a woman who was in the store, police said. She was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

After that robbery, the suspects tried to enter a store at 27th and Missouri avenues but the doors were locked. A suspect pointed a gun at the store clerk, according to police.

Police captured the suspects despite them attempting to flee when officers arrived on scene.
